EPCOT at Walt Disney World Florida was the second Orlando Theme Park to be built. Some people find the park a little boring but I think it has its own unique charm. It is basically split into two sections, World Showcase which opens at 11:00am and Future World that opens at 9:00am The park closes after the spectacular fireworks and laser show at 9:00pm

Future World

This is where almost all of the rides and exhibits are. And the first part of the park that you see when entering. Spaceship Earth (The Huge Ball) is a slow moving continuous ride that illustrates communication through the ages. This is a nice relaxing ride and suitable for everyone. There is a commentary throughout the ride by Dame Judy Dench.
Close by to this attraction are the innovations East and West. These both have modern and futuristic exhibits that you can play with and take part in, such as sending a picture email to friends back home or playing the latest video games. The kids will really enjoy this part.

Moving on, you come to Mission Space and Test Track. Mission Space is not for the feint hearted and has a motion sickness warning. It simulates a rocket launch to Mars. Test Track is great fun and sponsored by General Motors. I would recommend a fast pass for this ride. The ride takes you through various test procedures for your vehicle culminating in a high speed test around the track. It is a great ride for all of the family. Another attraction close by is Soarin’ this is the latest attraction to be added to the park and so the lines for it are quite long. Again, a fastpass is advisable, preferably as soon as you arrive at the park. There are various shows such as The Seas with Nemo and Friends and Honey I Shrunk the Audience.

World Showcase.

This is a collection of Pavilions (Countries) encircling the Lake, each pavilion has shops, restaurants and staff from the country depicted.  These are charming places to browse around and dine in. Many of the restaurants and shops are owned by famous people or people that excel in their field for example one of the restaurants in France is owned by 3 of the top chefs in Paris.

During the late fall (Sept – Nov) World Showcase plays host to the EPCOT food and Wine Festival where many other countries from around the world have small booths dotted around  where you can buy food and drink from their country.
Each of the countries gives entertaining shows throughout the day. The British pavilion has some street players and “The British Invasion” a 60’s revival band with a Beatles theme.
World Showcase is also the venue for the brilliant Firework display “Illuminations: Reflections of Earth”.  This is not to be missed.
