Pleasure Island
Pleasure Island is Disney's own brand of nightime entertainment
Over the years Pleasure Island has lost some of it's appeal. However, it has just
undergone a major refurbishment so things may get better. Prior to this they had
a huge outdoor stage called "West End Stage" where there were live acts on every
night sometimes some well known artists appeared there. I have seen Little Richard
& Robert Palmer on that stage all for the price of normal admission to PI.
On New Years eve there was always some special guests there. I saw Blondie and the
B.52's and it was very good.
Disney is not just for kids as this is a great place for adults to "play". Children
are allowed in Pleasure Island and can enter a couple of the clubs as long as they
are accompanied by an adult. The rest of the clubs require people to be 21 and over
to enter.
With the removal of the West End Stage there is a walk through now connecting it
with Downtown Disney. The clubs at Pleasure Islands are:
8 Trax (No Kids)
Dig out your platform shoes, get those flares pressed as this is the club for all
of those who want to relive the "Groovy 70's. You can do the "Hustle" to your hearts
content. There are mirror balls shedding light on to the dance floor and lava lamps
too! You can dance to the Village People, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Bee Gees
and many more. Every Thursday they fast forward to the 80's.
Adveturers Club (Kids Allowed)
The Adventurers Club is a themed explorers club dating back to 1937. There are a
crazy bunch of characters in this place. Professors Hunters and a nutty Colonel.
The establishment is staffed by Sunny Night the maid and Graves the Butler. There
are 4 rooms you can visit.
Main Salon: Be prepared to
be inducted into the Adventurer's Club by taking the club oath, singing the club
song and learning the very important club salute.
Mask Room: There's more to the masks than meets
the eye.
Treasure Room: Beezle the Genie floats above.
Be careful what you wish for in this artefact lined room.
Library: This is where the
main shows take place. They vary throughout the evening and may include the talented
Samantha Sterling's Cabaret, the Balderdash Competition and the Hoopla finale.
BET Sound Stage Club (No Kids)
This club is based on the TV cable channel and is popular later on in the night
try to get there before 11:30 to avoid the wait to enter. They play R & B, Hip
Hop, Reggae etc for your enjoyment. You can watch yourself dancing away on the video
walls or chill out on the waterfront terrace.
The Comedy Warehouse (Kids Allowed)
Presented by the "Who, What & Warehouse" improv players. The show follows
no script as the cast ad-lib their way through using keywords and phrases suggested
by you the audience. In keeping with the Disney image it is good clean humour.
Motions (No Kids)
DJ's play the latest top 40 tunes at this vibrant dance club. There is a large video
screen the reflects onto the dance floor.
Mannequins Dance Palace (No Kids)
Probably the most popular club in PI. It plays all the best and most popular dance
music, has an excellent lighting and sound system and the dance floor revolves.
Rock & Roll Beach Club (No kids)
This club is set on 3 levels and hosts live bands and DJ's playing all types of
music. It's theme is, as it's name implies, like a beach party atmosphere.
